[2C04] In-situ cathodoluminescence study of Gd2O3 doped CeO2 in HVEM
キーワード:Gd2O3 doped CeO2、Irradiation effects、High voltage electron microscopy、In-situ luminescence
Understanding the production of point defect and its charge state under irradiation condition is crucial to evaluate the safety of nuclear materials. CeO2 (ceria) is a surrogate for plutonium oxide and transmutation target and Gd2O3 doped ceria (GDC) can be used for burnable absorber fuels by neutron capture on large cross sections of Gd isotopes (Gd155 and Gd157). We detected in-situ cathodoluminescence (CL) emitted from F centers (oxygen vacancies with trapped electrons) and cerium ions in GDC varying with Gd concentration under high energy electron irradiation by using high voltage electron microscopy (HVEM) for 100 K ~ 300 K sample temperatures. We interpreted CL spectra in GDC showing 3 broad bands with thermal and concentration quenching effects.
