In a Tokamak DEMO fusion reactor that is expected to provide electricity to the commercial grid, fusion power control using the minimum necessary control actuators is required.

In this study, burn control with fuel supply and impurity exhaust by the pellet injection as a control actuator is investigated numerically.

With the transport code TOTAL, fusion power was controlled by the amount of fuel supplied by the pellet injection according to the target value of the fusion power hour by hour. The fuel recycling rate is 0.98. Plasma parameters for the Japanese DEMO reactor designed in 2014 were used in the model.

This plasma has 1.13 HH factor in ELMy H-mode. We assumed Ar and W as impurities. Injection of Argon gas for reducing divertor heat load during steady-state operation was found to increase the operating density of the plasma by 9%, but it was possible to control the fusion power with the expected amount of Ar. In addition, we calculated the mixing of the W bulk flaked from the reactor wall. It was possible to restore the reduced fusion power by pellet injection, and the limit of the amount of W that make the fusion power uncontrollable was obtained.
