[2L03] Comprehensive Stability Improvement of Core-shell Structured Li4TiO4-Li2TiO3 Tritium Breeding Ceramic Pebbles by Pvp-Assisted Granulation
Keywords:Tritium breeder, Li4TiO4, Li2TiO3
The development of tritium breeder materials with high lithium density and stable chemical properties has become an active research field in recent years. we have designed a novel approach with PVP acting as a bridging agent when fabricating Li4TiO4-Li2TiO3 core-shell pebbles by granulation technology. The phase compositions, morphology and microstructure of Li4TiO4-Li2TiO3 core-shell pebble were investigated. Such an advanced pebbles exhibit a uniform core-shell structure with a Li4TiO4 core diameter of ~800 μm and Li2TiO3 shell thickness of ~500 μm. The results show that the weight of Li4TiO4-Li2TiO3 core-shell pebble does not increase during the temperature rise to 900 °C in a 100.vol% CO2 atmosphere, indicating that it has satisfactory CO2 barrier properties. It is also noted that the Li2TiO3 shell can also significantly improve the crush load of Li4TiO4 pebbles, which can prevent damages caused by the high-density accumulation of pebbles in the blanket. Moreover, the water vapor release behavior and weight reduction of Li4TiO4-Li2TiO3 core-shell pebble at elevated temperatures under hydrogen atmosphere were also investigated.
