[1E12] Development of out of pile experimental method for evaluating the effect of dispersed fuel fragments on the fuel coolability depending on accumulation mode under FFRD condition
Keywords:FFRD, fuel fragmentation, fuel dispersal, fragments accumulation, core coolability, high burnup fuel, LOCA
FFRD (Fuel Fragmentation, Relocation and Dispersal) has been widely discussed as one of safety issues for high burnup fuel under LOCA condition. The whole phenomena in reactor core is still unclear, and knowledge and experimental data concerning the effect of expelled fuel fragments on core coolability are insufficient.
Recently we developed an out of pile experimental method that can simulate an accumulation of fuel fragments on the fuel grid using 3x3 fuel rod bundle system. This method enables to obtain the data concerning thermal behavior and blockage of coolant channels in fuel grid owing to simulated fuel fragments accumulation on the fuel grid. This presentation reports the results of accumulation mode change test using this testing system.
