As transfer of the nuclear technical knowledge to the next generation is becoming a major issue in Japan, Hitachi-GE has been implementing knowledge transfer activities applying Knowledge Management (KM) principles since 2017. The main approaches include; 1) develop and manage knowledge maps that list our technical knowledge, 2) transfer technical knowledge from senior experts to younger staff (“nexpert”: next expert) through systematic management of knowledge maps, 3) clarify areas with risk of knowledge loss by assessing above mentioned maps, 4) promote and deploy KM activities through internal awards and forums, and 5) improve access to technical information via implementation of new full-text search engine and renewal of intranet. The journey of the KM at Hitachi-GE and remaining challenges will also be shared in this report.
