[2B02] Creation of Smart PDMS Sponge for Selective Recovery of Molybdenum from Radioactive Wastes
キーワード:Molybdenum, PDMS, adsorption, surface modification
Solvent extraction and chromatography have been generally used for the separation of radionuclides from high-level radioactive liquid wastes (HLLWs), but generate negative impacts on the environment and safety such production of secondary wastes and fire and explosion. In this research, we aimed to create a novel silica-based adsorption matrix, called as polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS) sponge, which includes porous structure and surface functionality for target radionuclides. The PDMS sponge was synthesized and the surface were chemically functionalized with several amino acid derivatives such as glycine via the amidation reaction, and the adsorption and desorption behavior of oxoanions such as molybdate (Mo(VI)O42-) in various nitric acid solutions was investigated. We found that the surface-functionalized PDMS sponge enables to adsorb molybdate selectively, showing potential for recycling Mo(VI) from HLLWs.
