[2B04] Development of a surface-functionalized monolithic silica column and its application to separation of target metal ions

Keywords:Monolithic silica column, microcapillary, separation, radionuclide

Solvent extraction and extraction chromatographic techniques have been widely investigated for the separation of radionuclides from high-level radioactive liquid wastes (HLLWs), but generate negative impacts on the environment and safety such as production of secondary wastes and fire and explosion. In this study, we intended to develop a surface-functionalized monolithic silica microcapillary column which enables chemical operations with rapid, simple, and low environmental burden. The results suggest that the developed monolithic silica microcapillary column would adsorb lanthanide species from the simulated HLLWs.
