A research project is underway to develop a new subassembly-type passive reactor shutdown device that will enhance the "versatility" and "robustness" of measures to prevent core disruptive accidents in sodium-cooled fast reactors. We report the overall outline of the project and the progress of the studies on the candidate materials and structures of the device, the device simulation experiments, and the dynamic characteristics of the device loaded core until FY2020.
