In consideration of the realization of a decarbonized society, and the applicability to distributed power supply systems, small modular light water reactor (SMLWR) is been developing. The SMLWR will not only supply electric power to small-scale grids, but also be utilized for various purposes such as the electric power supply to undeveloped power grid areas, remote islands and atomic-powered ships. Safety of the SMLWR incorporates with protection in depth based on the lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi accident. In particular, passive systems are preferentially used for safety systems of the SMLWR. This report introduces the current development status of the passive core cooling system.
