Because of large neutro/proton ratio, tritium (T) has been recognized in a field of nuclear physics as a good target material to create unstable nuclei. Miki et al. has proposed to create trineutron via T(T,3He)3n reactions. For this purpose, self-standing tritiated titanium target (TiT1.5) was prepared by applying tritium handling techniques developed in fusion research. A relatively-thick Ti target (75 microns) was successfully prepared at 460-480 ℃ by using T2 gas purified by ZrNi getter and transported to RIKEN RI Beam Factory. The total T inventory in the target was 1.6 TBq.
