[3J06] Study of a Fuel-Salt to Coolant-Salt Heat Exchanger for Molten Salt Fast Reactor
Keywords:Molten Salt Fast Reactor, plate-type heat exchanger, sinusoidal curved flow path, zigzag flow path, verification of CFD model
Molten fuel salts and molten coolant salts used in molten salt reactors generally have low thermal conductivity, resulting in poor heat transfer. Therefore, if IHXs such as those used in liquid metal reactors are applied, the volume of the liqid fuel region will increase, and there is a possibility that the system will not be established. PCHE (Printed Circuit Heat Exchanger) is an efficient heat exchanger, but since the flow path is narrow, it may become a cold trap in some cases, and there is a concern that nuclides generated in the core will be deposited in the flow path. As a result, not only the heat exchange performance is deteriorated, but also the flow path may be blocked. Therefore, a sine-curve plate heat exchanger with a flow path size of 7 mm x 10 mm was examined using a CFD code. The turbulent flow model was verified by the experimental results using supercritical carbon dioxide gas in PCHX of the zigzag flow path.
