Keywords:Vertical pipe, Countercurrent flow, Flooding at upper end, Flow characteristics, Liquid volume fraction

Experiments for air-water countercurrent flows in the vertical pipe with the diameter of 40 mm were carried out, effects of the water level in the upper tank on the flow characteristics inside the pipe under flooding at its top end were measured, and the change of the liquid volume fraction αL with increasing the gas volume flux JG was well computed by the annular low model.
