MHI has been developing a Cogeneration Plant utilizing High Temperature Gas Reactor, which has inherent safety and can extract heat at high temperatures of 900 °C or higher, to achieve both safe and low-carbon hydrogen production and power generation. This plant can produce large quantities of hydrogen efficiently, and can be operated at a constant reactor power output against load fluctuations by adjusting the ratio of hydrogen production and power generation.
For the high heat efficiency of the plant, the development of intermediate heat exchanger and recuperator are being carried out. In this paper, examination items carried out in FY 2020 as the conceptual studies based on technologies from High Temperature engineering Test Reactor (HTTR) are reported.
