[3M08] Mathematical analysis of radiation effects on neoplasm emergence and life-shortening in mice -Analyzing the differences among histological cancer types-
Keywords:radiation, biological effect, cancer, mathematical model
There are two possible factors related to life-shortening due to cancer: early cancer emergence and early death by accelerated cancer-cell proliferation. We consider that radiation-induced life-shortening is caused by the two factors and analyze them from the viewpoint of mathematical modeling. At the 2020 Fall Meeting, we categorized cancer into four groups (all-cancer, malignant lymphoma, leukemia, and solid cancers). We analyzed each group based on the data from the low-dose-rate gamma-ray irradiation experiments of mice conducted at Institute for Environmental Sciences. The results showed that radiation accelerates cancer emergences of solid cancers, while radiation extends the period from the emergence of them to death. In this presentation, we will extend the previous content and perform detailed analysis of solid cancers.
