Quantification of 126Sn in concrete rubble by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry requires separation of the nuclide from an isobar (126Te) and sample matrices. In the study, we developed an HCl-free procedure for recovering Sn from concretes. At first, Sn is coprecipitated with iron hydroxide. Or the solution sample is evaporated to dryness to remove nitrate. The obtained precipitate/or residue is then dissolved in hydrofluoric acid (HF) before Sn is retained on a commercial TEVA® resin column in the media of 0.5 M HF. Finally, Sn is eluted by 2M nitric acid. With the developed separation process, Sn was completely recovered from the synthetic concrete solution sample. The method development and characterization are discussed in detail in the presentation.
