The solid blanket of the fusion DEMO reactor employs small pebbles of Li2TiO3 as tritium breeder. Fretting corrosion between the pebbles and coolant tubes may be caused by the vibration of the coolant tubes, which is induced by the coolant flow. In the present study, fretting corrosion tests were performed with various materials, and their fretting behaviors were made clear. Constant load and vibration were applied between the pebble specimen and the plate specimen in an atmospheric environment at room temperature. When the vibrating F82H steel contacted with Li2TiO3 pebble for 300 minutes, the Li2TiO3 pebble was significantly abraded and the fretting scars in a depth of several tens of μm were observed on the steel surface.
