[1D16] Development of spent salt treatment technology using zeolite
(8) Zeolite immersion experiments in simulating spent salt containing various kinds of FP elements and fabrication of glass-bonded sodalite waste form
Keywords:Pyroprocessing, Spent salt treatment, Zeolite, Cesium, Strontium, Cerium, Iodine, Glass-bonded sodalite waste form
Zeolite immersion experiments in simulating spent salt containing various kinds of FP elements i.e., cesium, strontium, cerium, and iodine, at the maximum, were conducted under stirring condition. Then, it was shown that the absorption behavior of strontium was intensively affected by coexisting cerium in the salt. Additionally, a glass-bonded sodalite waste form was fabricated using the zeolite immersed in the simulating spent salt. The FP elements and the elements forming the glass-bonded sodalite existed uniformly in the product. Furthermore, the composition of the product roughly agreed with the estimated value, meaning that no significant mass loss was caused during the consolidation procedure.
