The coated fuel particles in HTGRs consist of a uranium dioxide fuel core coated with four layers of ceramics, and the fission products are confined in the coating layer. Under high burnup, the increase in internal pressure causes high stress in the coating layer, resulting in failure. The failure rate has been found to depend on the anisotropy value (BAF values) of PyC. In this study, the values of PyC irradiation dimensional change based on BAF values estimated from the pre-irradiation test were applied to a high burnup irradiation test (HRB-22 capsule irradiation test) and compared with failure rates obtained from the post irradiation test. As a result, the final healthy particle failure rate was different from the experimental results.
