[1N04] Study of the electronic structure of the solvated electron in alcohols by pulse-pump-probe method
Keywords:pulse radiolysis, reaction dynamics, fundamental process of radiation chemistry, time-resolved spectroscopy, solvated electron
The electronic structure of the solvated electron in alcohols is examined by means of the pump-pulse-probe method, which is the combination technique of the conventional pulse radiolysis and the photo-excitation with a laser pulse. The sample was n-pentanol irradiated by the electron pulse and photo-excited by a 532 nm laser pulse, typically at 500 ns after the electron pulse irradiation. The absorption due to the solvated electron, which has a bleach signal, and the recovering dynamics of the bleach will be the expected, and these dynamics are expected to tell the information of the transition level of the electronic transition: the transition "in" the molecular orbital of the solvated electron or the transition to the higher level to give quasi-free electron.
