In order to clarify the radiation degradation mechanism of the TEHDGA-impregnated adsorbent that recovers rare earth elements and minor actinide (MA; Am, Cm) from the reprocessed liquid waste, a γ-ray irradiation experiment was conducted on the adsorbent sample with and without nitric acid. Up to the irradiation dose of 1 MGy, it was confirmed that the radiolysis of the extractant attenuated exponentially regardless of the presence or the absence of nitric acid. On the other hand, when the irradiation dose was greater than 1 MGy, radiolysis of the extractant became gradual in the presence of nitric acid. Based on these experimental data, the direct effect and the indirect effect are explained.
