In a fusion reactor blanket system, functional coatings have been developed to reduce tritium permeation and corrosion by tritium breeders. Ceramic coatings have been shown high hydrogen isotope permeation reduction performance, while the compatibility of the coating contacting with solid breeder pebbles is unknown. In this presentation, corrosion effects of solid breeder pebbles on hydrogen isotope permeation behavior of steels and the functional coatings are reported through deuterium permeation tests after exposure to the pebbles consisting of lithium metatitanate and lithium orthosilicate.
