The PVA-KI gel changes color from colorless to red when irradiated radiation. After the color change, the gel is decolorized by heating, and then colored again by irradiation. Thus, the PVA-KI gel is reusable. In this study, we measured the absorbance of X-ray irradiated PVA-KI gels and identified absorbances and spectral changes with prolonged heating, and attempted to elucidate the reactions and reaction products that contribute to the decolorization reaction of the PVA-KI gels.
