In the disposal of tritiated water to sea, tritium concentration in fish is measured to confirm food safety and prevent harmful rumors. However, it takes more than one month to measure the tritium concentration in a fish specimen, which means that safety confirmation cannot be done quickly, and the time required for safety confirmation can lead to reputational damage. Therefore, we are developing a rapid screening method for tritium concentration in fish. This report describes a method using a microwave oven for collecting free water in fish, which enables measurement of 5 to 10 samples per day.
