We have developed the hydrogen treatment system with metal oxide as a countermeasure of large quantities of hydrogen generated in the primary containment vessel of BWRs in severe accidents. In order to study the system dimensions and installation location, it is necessary to accurately understand the chemical reaction behavior between the metal oxide and hydrogen in the reactor. Therefore, we designed and prototyped a reaction tube test piece, which is filled with metal oxide molded into 2 mm granules. In the test, basic data on the amount of hydrogen treated, the temperature in the packed bed. We quantitatively evaluated the hydrogen treatment performance from the test results.
