We have developed the hydrogen treatment system with metal oxide as a countermeasure of large quantities of hydrogen generated in the primary containment vessel (PCV) of BWRs in severe accidents. Based on the basic system configuration, several configurations of the system were studied in the viewpoint of total weight, installation space, operability, period of hydrogen treatment and so on. And also, the period of hydrogen treatment for each system configuration was estimated by evaluating the time history behavior of gases and water vapor in the PCV using the hydrogen treatment performance of two types of metal oxide which was predicted from the results of experiment of packed bed in single tube and the numerical calculation.
