[2M09] Development of an omni-directional radiation detector
Invention of beta- and gamma-ray imager with fractal structure
Keywords:Radiation Imager, Omni-Directional Measurement , Fractal Geometry, Beta and Gamma-Ray Measurement
We have developed a radiation detector in the shape of a Sierpinski tetrahedron, which is a fractal geometry. Sixteen GAGG scintillators are arranged in a Sierpinski tetrahedron shape with a tetrahedral radiation sensor as a unit, and the space between the sensors is filled with lead. The scintillators are regular tetrahedrons with side length of 12 mm, which minimizes the possibility of pile-up even when the incident radiation flux is high. The three-dimensional arrangement has a fractal dimension of 2, which enables efficient counting of incident radiation from any direction. The concept and the results of directional characteristic tests using β- and γ-ray sources will be presented.
