[3E13] Precise Evaluation of Molecular Formation in X-ray Radiolysis of Water
Keywords:X-ray, Water, Radiolysis, Molecular Product, Radiation-chemical Yield (G-value), Radiation Quality
Different from single energy (monochromatic) photons such as Co-60 gamma-rays, continuous energy (spectrum) photons such as bremsstrahlung and X-rays give photons with different radiation qualities (energy spectrum) into water. These photons decompose water with different yields (G-values) and patterns of products. Therefore, since evaluation of this radiation quality (LET) effect is important in the experiments using these photons, dose and radiation quality data, and the effect of water thickness on water radiolysis have been evaluated using X-ray equipments. In this report, we developed (improved) methods for precise evaluation of molecular formation, such as manufacturing a new glass container, and evaluated the effect of tube voltage (maximum incident energy) on molecular formation. From the result, the LET effect was discussed.
