In our previous works, diffusive behavior of hydrogen absorption in an oxide film on the surface of zirconium alloy was experimentally studied. Based on these works, a model of simultaneous oxide growth and hydrogen absorption on the alloy surface has been developed. The model includes surface oxidation, hydrogen pickup, both oxygen and hydrogen diffusion, and charge balance. A numerical simulation using the model is conducted and compared with the experimental results of the oxide film thickness and the deuterium concentration distribution. It is found that the model can well explain the experimental results when the influence of the electric field is taken into account as well as the concentration gradient.
