The LDD's laser decontamination devices have decontaminated the surface of radioisotope(RI) contaminants by high-speed scanning with high-power density laser light using a galvanometer. We have already used the devices to irradiate the reactor stainless steel samples with a laser to achieve complete decontamination below the RI detection limit. In addition, many RI contaminated concrete, glass, metal, and painted surfaces have been decontaminated to obtain practical and very large decontamination factors. We will discuss the design and operating principle of the high-power density and high-speed scanning laser decontamination devices.
