[1A02] Effects of Oxygen Injection and Pt Deposition on Flow Accelerated Corrosion of Carbon Steel Piping
Keywords:BWR, Carbon Steel, Flow Accelerated Corrosion, Oxygen Injection, Platinum, Clean Up Water System, Noble Metal Chemical Addition
Recently, reports of flow accelerated corrosion (FAC) of carbon steel (CS) piping in clean-up water system (CUW) are increasing at BWR plants in the U.S. Most of BWR plants in the U.S. have been operated with hydrogen injection (HWC) and Online NobleChem (OLNC) as a countermeasure against stress corrosion cracking. However, studies on the effects of noble metal on carbon steel corrosion are limited. We are investigating the effects of platinum deposition on CS corrosion and the FAC suppression effect of oxygen injection. In this presentation, we performed corrosion tests under simulated CUW conditions. Platinum deposition did not accelerate the FAC of CS under the condition without oxidants.
