In some cases, the metal concentration dissolved from crystalline metal dioxide MO₂ in the neutral and alkaline pH exceeds the solubility estimated from thermodynamic calculations. We discussed this behavior based on the solubility study focusing on the surface condition of ZrO₂(cr).
