[1F16] Assessment of dust dispersion data for future safety analysis of Fukushima Daiichi fuel debris retrieval
(11) Measurement of dust dispersion data during cutting kg-scale fuel debris simulants containing uranium with disk cutter
Keywords:TEPCO’s Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, Fuel debris retrieval, Dust dispersion data, Dust characterization.
To contribute to the safety evaluation of the fuel debris retrieval process at TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, it is important to obtain dust dispersion data during fuel debris cutting. In this study, dust dispersion tests generated during cutting were conducted under dry conditions using once-molten and heterogeneous uranium-containing fuel debris simulants that are considered to have properties similar to those of actual fuel debris. The same disk cutter and similar flow conditions as the cold tests were applied. In addition to confirming the effect of different manufacturing methods (thermite reaction and induction heating) on the dust dispersion data, the properties of the collected dusts were analyzed.
