[1H13] Feasibility of a small RFBB concept with lead coolant and nitride fuel
Keywords:RFBB, Breed-and-burn reactor, Fast Reactor, Westinghouse LFR, Lead coolant, Nitride fuel
This study investigates the feasibility of the Rotational Fuel Breed and Burn (RFBB) method applied to the Westinghouse Lead Cooled Fast Reactor (WH LFR) with uranium mononitride (UN) fuel in equilibrium cycle conditions. Analysis has been conducted with the use of SERPENT2 and the ENDF/B-VII nuclear data library to perform criticality and burnup calculations, and COMSOL Multiphysics for heat removal calculation of the hottest pin. Results show that the WH LFR core design can maintain criticality at equilibrium state while satisfying minimum required burnup and maximum accepted DPA damage for the discharged fuel, as well as successful heat removal within thermal margins.
