[1I04] Evaluation of longitudinal rms emittance decrease due to the nonlinear space charge force in the IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc)
Keywords:deuteron, buncher, longitudinal rms emittance, emittance reduction, space charge force
The IFMIF Prototype Accelerator (LIPAc) has been designed and developed by a collaboration between Japan and European Union institutes to validate the accelerating of a 125 mA deuteron beam up to 9 MeV in the CW operation. Recently, particle tracking simulations show that the longitudinal RMS emittance decreases traveling the beam line after the beam passes through the buncher. Through the analysis, we reveal the mechanism that the longitudinal phase space distorted by the sine curve RF field in the buncher is corrected by the space charge field, which results in a decrease in the longitudinal RMS emittance. The details on the mechanism of the longitudinal RMS emittance decrease are reported.
