[1L18] Integrating the tritium fuel cycle for fusion energy demonstration plant (UNITY-2)
Outline and Development Plan for UNITY-2
Keywords:Tritium, Fuel Cycle, Intergration Testing, Lithium-Lead
In 2022, Kyoto Fusioneering (KF) started development of UNITY intended to demonstrate the thermal cycle for fusion energy demonstration plant. In parallel, KF also plans to build the Unique Integrated Testing Facility 2 (UNITY-2) at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) to support tritium fuel cycle development. This facility will be collaboratively developed by KF and CNL to integrate their respective technologies into a single system. UNITY-2 will demonstrate a sequential operation of key components in fuel cycle by using tritium and will be a platform for the development of fuel cycle systems relevant to commercial fusion devices that have requirements relevant for steady state operation of fusion pilot plants at high fuel injection rates.
