90Sr is a kind of fission product. Once it enters the human body through polluted water sources, it will cause very serious inner exposure to organs. Traditional 90Sr mass spectrometry methods, such as ICP-MS and AMS, often need to face isobaric interference and complex chemical pretreatment. Resonance ionization mass spectrometry (RIMS) uses the transition energy differences between different elements and different isotopes to achieve isobaric suppression, and high selectivity for isotopes. Moreover, multi-step resonance ionization can excite atoms into specific Rydberg states, thereby improving ionization efficiency.
RIMS for 90Sr determination is promising to achieve a lower detection limit and advantage upon high isotopic selectivity under a multi-step ionization scheme. However, it needs to research more efficient ionization schemes as well as clarify the isotope shifts of 90Sr to other Sr isotopes.
