In order to estimate the temperature and oxygen atmosphere at the time of fuel debris formation and to obtain the structural and chemical composition necessary to evaluate the physical properties of fuel debris, the three-dimensional morphology of a 25% Fe-doped (U, Zr)O2 fuel debris was investigated by using a 3D-FIB-SEM. The chemical composition and atomic structure of Fe and ZrO2 particles deposited on the inner surface of the debris were characterized using nanoscale analytical microscopy with a spherical aberration-corrected transmission electron microscope (AC-TEM).
