[2H20] The role of the Atomic Energy Society at a major turning point in radiation education

*Masafumi Akiyoshi1 (1. OMU)

Keywords:radiation education, guidelines for junior high school students, the Crookes tube, open school activities

The new guidelines for junior high school students will be fully implemented in 2021, and in the second grade of junior high school, a new content is added about the properties and use of radiation in relation to vacuum discharge. On the other hand, it has been revealed that the Crookes tube, which is used to observe vacuum discharge, can emit X-rays with an Hp(0.07) value as high as 200 mSv/h at a distance of 15 cm. The JHPS and other organizations have collaborated to compile a list of precautions for conducting safe experiments. However, AESJ has not taken any action on this issue. We would like to question the attitude of the society toward radiation education.
