Concrete used in nuclear power plants is locally produced for local consumption, and the composition of rocks and minerals affected by irradiation varies widely. Therefore, it is desirable to clarify the degradation mechanisms due to radiation effects on different types of rocks and minerals, and to develop basic data and evaluation methods that can be commonly used. The purpose of this research is to clarify the expansion behavior of rocks and minerals in concrete by irradiating them, to establish a flow for evaluating the integrity of concrete irradiated by neutrons, and to develop necessary data. This paper reports on the background and overall plan of this research.
