Platinum group metals (PGMs) and molybdenum (Mo) contained in high-level radioactive liquid waste cause serious problems in the vitrification process (joule heating failure, glass flowability deterioration, and clogging). We have found that Prussian blue (PB) and its analogues (PBA) exhibit higher uptake performances for PGMs and Mo than other sorbents (activated carbon and zeolite). However, we also found that it takes a long time, about one month, to achieve sorption equilibrium. Previously, we reported that an electrochemical control of the redox states of the PB thin film improves the uptake performance for Rh ions by more than one order of magnitude, which is due to accelerate the Rh ion diffusion processes as rate-limiting factors. In this talk, we demonstrate that Pd ions are selectively sorbed into PB film by examining the solution containing Pd, Ru, and Rh ions by the redox-states control of the PB thin film.
