[3E08] Recovery of platinum group elements using metal-organic nanospace materials
(III) Theoretical study on effect of applied electric field on Rh(III) ion diffusion in Prussian blue nanospace
Keywords:Prussian blue film, Rhodium, Electrochemistry, redox, uptake performance
Platinum group metals (PGMs) and molybdenum (Mo) contained in high-level radioactive liquid waste cause serious problems in the vitrification process. It has been found that Prussian blue (PB) and its analogues (PBA) have higher sorption performance for PGMs and Mo in comparison with existing sorbents. It has also been found, however, that the sorption equilibrium requires a long time. On the other hand, it is suggested that the diffusion of metal ions, which is the main rate-limiting factor, is accelerated by the applied electric field. In this study, we report that quantum chemical calculation suggests that the sorption performance of rhodium Rh(III), one of the PGMs can be accelerated by an applied electric field.
