[3M12] Conceptual design of high-performance moderator vessel for JRR-3 cold neutron source
(3) Evaluation of optimum geometry by flow analysis
Keywords:Cold Neutron Source (CNS), Moderator vessel, Flow analysis, Liquid hydrogen
A conceptual design for a high performance moderator vessel was carried out for JRR-3 of the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) to increase the strength of the cold neutron source (CNS).
Based on the results of previous flow analyses and simulation tests, the operational characteristics in the new CNS facility were predicted.
Also, In the moderator vessel where liquid hydrogen is stored, nuclear heating results in a two-phase gas-liquid flow.
In order to ascertain the void fraction and void occurrence situation in the vessel, which affect the cold neutron flux, a flow analysis was carried out, and we evaluated the optimum geometry.
The liquid hydrogen flow characteristics of the new CNS facility are presented.
