[2D05] Validation of a spectrometer for the Measurement of epithermal neutrons with a beam neutron source
Keywords:Radiation therapy, Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, Neutron Measurement, Beam Shaping Assembly
We have been developing a new spectrometer to measure the neutron energy spectrum, especially in the epi-thermal region. Epi-thermal neutrons are used for boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT), and the energy spectrum is necessary information for the evaluation of the treatment effects, such as patient exposure dose. However, there is no method to accurately measure it. We conducted validation experiments to demonstrate the performance of the new spectrometer. However, due to the large discrepancy observed between the calculated values by simulation and the actual measured values, we could not validate the spectrometer. To conduct verification experiments, we have examined the beam shaping assembly (BSA), and designed and developed a collimator to realize a pencil-beam epi-thermal neutron source.
