[2G03] Corrosion behavior of nickel bearing materials in molten salts FLiNaK and LiCl-KCl
Keywords:Molten salt, Corrosion test, Galvanic corrosion
Molten salts have high heat capacity, and so there is interest in investigating it to be used as a coolant of molten salt reactors and for fluid in thermal energy storage. However, molten salts are corrosive to structural materials, thus the corrosion behavior of structural materials in molten salts should be clarified. Corrosion tests of nickel-based super alloys and stainless steels were conducted in molten salts FLiNaK and LiCl-KCl at 500°C for 200 hours. The mass change of the specimens due to the corrosion was measured, and the surface and the cross-section of the specimens were observed and analyzed with SEM/EDS. The cross-section of crucibles were also analyzed to clarify the occurrence of galvanic corrosion.
