The immobilization of the radionuclides produced in the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant (1F) is a growing priority for waste management. We have fabricated the composite wasteform that consists of 10-30 % primary ceramic waste and a secondary ceramic/metallic matrix as a new concept for “hybrid waste solidification”. Here, we first evaluated the effect of spark plasma sintering (SPS) and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) precesses on the solidification of various wastes mainly for Fukushima decommissioning to add more insight into this field.
