[2I14] Study on advanced nuclear energy system based on the environmental impact of radioactive waste disposal
(14) Cross-sectoral evaluation of environmental load reduction of nuclear power system
Keywords:nuclear energy system, nuclear fuel cycle, radioactive waste management , radioactive waste disposal, environmental load
The environmental impact of geological disposal of vitrified waste under various nuclear fuel cycle conditions was evaluated, and the effective combination of nuclear fuel cycle conditions to reduce the environmental impact was investigated, focusing on the MA separation ratio. The environmental impact was classified into 3 areas and 6 criteria as waste amount and radiation impact in geological disposal, MA separation, and fast reactor utilization for recovered MA burning, and was evaluated by referring to the method of multi-criteria analysis. A comparison of the environmental impact assessment values taking into consideration the weight distribution of the criteria was carried out, and the effect, influence and superiority of the simplified MA separation of 70% to 90% were evaluated from a cross-sectoral perspective on combinations of nuclear fuel cycle conditions. The waste to be evaluated was vitrified waste derived from UO2 and MOX fuel.
