To clarify the criticality characteristics of fuel debris, a series of critical experiments in a core simulating fuel debris is planned in the modified STACY.
In the experiment, steel and concrete rods that simulate the structural materials of possible fuel debris, structural material rods, are loaded into the core. Prior to the experiment, nuclear characteristics of the experimental core were analyzed. In the analysis, several typical experimental cores were selected with respect to the loading pattern. To satisfy the core configuration requirements, for each core, the critical number of fuel rods, subcriticality during tsunami submergence, and the critical boron concentration were evaluated. As a result of analysis, conditions were clarified for the selected cores to satisfy the license of STACY.
