[1G01] Wall conditioning in a fusion reactor
Keywords:fusion reactor, wall conditioning, boronization
Wall conditioning is discussed for smooth initiation of plasma operation in fusion reactors and for reducing tritium accumulation in the reactor. Smooth initiation of plasma operation requires, among other things, reduction of oxygen impurities to lower the radiation barrier and transition to the prescribed plasma state. Boron coating on the plasma-facing wall has been used to reduce oxygen impurities in currently operating fusion devices, and has recently been considered in ITER. Taking the DEMO reactor as an example, the presentation will report and discuss the results of the study on the conditions under which boronization will be performed and the effects of oxygen removal and hydrogen isotope accumulation.
