[1H07] A study of new fabrication technique of absorption gratings for neutron phase imaging
Keywords:Neutron phase imaging, Gadolinium absorption grating fabrication
The fabrication of absorption gratings is essential to satisfy the required performance of the neutron phase imaging, in particular Talbot-Lau interferometry (TLI). Gadolinium (Gd) is used in the fabrication of absorption gratings due to its high absorption cross section. However, limitations such as nonuniformity, limited grating size and slow Gd deposition rate exist in different fabrication methods. In this study, we propose a new fabrication technique for the absorption gratings used in the neutron TLI. The absorption gratings were fabricated by ultra-high precision cutting machine at RIKEN and an ion beam sputtering instrument (KUR-IBS) at KURNS. The newly fabricated source grating was tested at the TLI installed to CN-3 port of KURNS.
