[1K13] Modeling and experimental validation for the relation between large bubble formation and departure from nucleate boiling

Keywords:subcooled flow boiling, large bubble formation, departure from nucleate boiling

It has been well-established by many investigations that the onset of vapor blanket is a preliminary event that leads to the departure from nucleate boiling. A recently proposed semi-mechanistic model by Nguyen and Okawa has explored that departure from nucleate boiling (DNB) heat fluxes increases proportionally with the large bubble formation (LBF) heat fluxes; the DNB heat flux is about 20% larger than the LBF heat flux when LBF is formed at low heat flux range. Furthermore, the DNB heat flux equals the LBF heat flux if a very high heat flux is needed to form a large bubble due to the rapid dryout of the liquid sublayer. Hence. From here, the experiment was performed to validate this relation.
